TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts opened the second half with a 16-2 run and gave South Dakota State fits defensively all afternoon as the Golden Eagles made a bid for Summit League supremacy with an 86-75 victory Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Center.

ORU improved to 14-7 overall and 8-2 in The Summit League. The Golden Eagles could sit atop the league standings by themselves by day's end, pending the outcome of the UMKC-Southern Utah game later on Saturday.

The Jackrabbits, who committed a season-high 33 turnovers, dropped to 11-9 overall, 7-3 in league play.

After Oral Roberts grabbed an early 6-2 lead, the Jackrabbits took their first lead of the game at 8-6 on the putback basket by Jennie Sunnarborg. As fouls and turnovers mounted against SDSU, Oral Roberts built a 21-13 lead following a three-pointer by Jaci Bigham with 10 minutes and 36 seconds left in the front half.

SDSU used the three-pointer effectively to get back in the game. All six Jackrabbit baskets over a five-minute span came from behind the arc, including three by Jill Young and a pair by Macie Michelson. Young's third three-pointer tied the game at 27-all, while Michelson's second trifecta gave the Jackrabbits a 34-31 advantage.

Oral Roberts regained the lead at 38-36 on a basket by Savanna Buck with 3:37 remaining in the first half. A basket by Kristin Rotert in the closing seconds pulled SDSU back to within a point, 42-41, at halftime.

After committing 15 first-half turnovers, the Jackrabbits continued to be their own worst enemies in the opening minutes of the second half. SDSU turned the ball over nine times in the first four minutes, allowing the Golden Eagles to go on their game-breaking run. Freshman Kevin Luper scored the final six points in the outburst and 19 in the second half en route to a game-high 30 points.

ORU built its lead to 21, 76-55, midway through the second half before the Jackrabbits put together one final run. Ketty Cornemann and Michelson combined for 15 points as SDSU climbed back to within single digits , 84-75, with a minute and half to play.

Maria Boever led SDSU with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Cornemann scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half. Michelson tallied 12 points, with Young chipping in with 11.

The Jackrabbits finished the game 25-of-58 from the field, 43.1 percent, including 8-for-27 from three-point range. At the line, SDSU was 17-of-26, 65.4 percent.

ORU also received double-digit performances from Bigham (19) and Jordan Pyle with 14 as the Golden Eagles ended the day 32-of-72 from the floor, 44.4 percent. The Golden Eagles made only 3-of-13 three-point attempts, but were 19-of-27 at the line, 70.4 percent.

Rebounds were even at 40. Janae Voelker led ORU with a game-high 11 boards and added eight steals as the Golden Eagles, the Division I leader for steals per game, notched 22 thefts as a team.

SDSU closes its road trip Monday at Centenary. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
