Three members of the South Dakota State University baseball team received recognition from Summit League coaches in a preseason survey conducted by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

Junior third baseman Jesse Sawyer received accolades in three hitting categories. The Calgary, Alberta, native was named one of the league's top three pure hitters, one of league's top three power threats and the hitter opposing coaches least wanted to face. A first-team all-Summit League selection in 2009, Sawyer set Jackrabbit single-season records with 19 home runs and 148 total bases, while adding team highs of 61 runs scored, 58 runs batted in and a .701 slugging percentage.

Junior center fielder Billy Stitz received top honors in a pair of categories in the survey. A native of Burnsville, Minn., Stitz was selected as the top defensive outfielder and best baserunner in The Summit League. In 2009, Stitz committed only one error in 125 chances and also led the Jackrabbits with 13 stolen bases.

Also honored was junior outfielder Joel Blake, who was named the league's most underrated hitter. In 2009, Blake tied for the single-season school record with 80 hits, batting .351 with 13 home runs and 38 RBI, while handling leadoff duties for much of the season.

The Jackrabbits are scheduled to open the 2010 season with a three-game series Feb. 26-28 at Murray State (Ky.).
