Ryan Sweeter joined the South Dakota State sports information staff in September 2006 as the assistant sports information director, a roll in which he served until October 2012, when he accepted a promotion to associate sports information director, where he serves as the primary contact for the Jackrabbits men's basketball, softball and equestrian teams.

In addition to his day-to-day duties, Sweeter also serves on the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Sport Advancement and Selections Committees.

Before joining the SDSU staff, Sweeter spent four years as the weekend sports anchor at KDLT-TV in his hometown of Sioux Falls, where he covered everything from racquetball to the Minnesota Twins and, of course, the Jackrabbits.

A 1993 graduate of O’Gorman High School, Sweeter served four years on active duty in the United States Air Force from 1993-97; attending basic military training school at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas from September-October 1993 before moving on to technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas from October 1993-January 1994.

Sweeter reported to his permanent duty station at Little Rock Air Force Base in January 2014, where he worked as an aircraft pneaudraulics systems specialist on C-130E model aircraft in the 62nd Airlift Squadron, the world’s largest cargo plane training squadron.

Before being honorably discharged on Sept. 12, 1997, Sweeter earned the National Defense, the Air Force Achievement and Good Conduct Medals, along with an outstanding unit citation and awards for longevity and training.

After graduating from South Dakota State in 2001 a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism, Sweeter lived in West Hartford, Conn., for a year, working as a production assistant at WVIT, an NBC owned and operated station that serves the Hartford, Conn., television market.

An active member of the American Legion Post 74, Sweeter also serves on the Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.
