EVANSTON, Ill. - The South Dakota State wrestling team posted a 1-2 record Sunday afternoon at the Northwestern Duals. The event was hosted in Evanston, Ill. at the Northwestern Sports Pavilion and Aquatic Center.

The Jackrabbits lost to Wisconsin-Parkside 28-18 and Northwestern 41-0 but defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater 24-13.

Aaron Pickrel went 2-1 on the day in the 125-pound weight class with wins over Martino Balsiger of Wisconsin-Parkside and Jedd Wilson of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Pickrel defeated Balsiger by an 8-1 decision and gave the Jacks an early lead over Whitewater with a tech fall over Wilson. Pickrel fell to Brandon Precin of Northwestern by decision 5-1.  Pickrel improves to 7-2 on the season.

Freshman Tony Vaske at 141 pounds was the only wrestler to go undefeated for the Jacks with two wins. Vaske defeated Taylor Servant of Parkside by fall in four minutes 26 seconds and Brian Lewis of Whitewater by a 7-2 decision. Vaske's 2-0 record at the Duals improves his record to 4-2.

Heavyweight Kevin Kelly notched two wins for the Jacks over James Malechek of Parkside 8-5 and James Zarate 5-1 to secure the win over Whitewater. Kelly fell to Ben Kuhar of Northwestern 1-0 but improves his record to 6-3.

The Jacks head to the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha, Neb., next week. Action is slated to begin a 9 a.m. on Nov. 20.
