Men, women cross country run away with Invite...

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The South Dakota State men's and women's cross country teams ran away with the Ron Pynn Invitational Cross Country Meet, hosted by the University of North Dakota. The invitational consisted of four teams and 31 runners on the men's side, and four teams and 42 runners on the women's side.

Senior Greg Vollmer set the pace in the men's 8k run and was the individual champion with a time of 25 minutes and 31.70 seconds. Vollmer was first place by over 30 seconds.

In the women's 5k run, junior Erin Hargens was the individual champion with a time of 18 minutes and 52.40 seconds. Hargens was followed closely by fellow teammate and junior Tera Potts, who ran the course in 18:56.18.

The men's team took the top three spots, and four of the top five. Freshman Trent Lusignan came in second-place with a time of 26:03.42. Lusignan was followed closely by junior Jared Ailts, who finished in 26:07.55. Senior Kyle Schmidt finished in fifth-place at 26:26.65.

The women's team captured the top two spots, and four of the top seven. Along with Hargens and Potts, junior Danielle McCann and freshman Courtney Neubert were top-seven finishers. McCann finished in sixth-place with a time of 19 minutes and 33.12 seconds. Neubert was seventh at 19:37.86.

The men's team was rounded out by seniors Greg Beesley in 10th (26.59.90) and Lars Mattison in 14th (27:13.06), sophomores Kenny Mayer in 17th (27:28.74) and Christian Karels in 21st (28:16.21) and junior Brad Anderson in 22nd (28:30.90).

The women's team was rounded out by juniors Krista Creager in 10th (19:48.01) and Laura Bauer in 11th (19:49.25), sophomore Katie Boote in 15th (19:58.22), juniors Laura Wolles in 24th (20:18.43), Josie Oakland in 25th (20:20.08) and Brooke Wyffels in 29th (20:29.49), and freshmen Leah Bolon in 31st (20:31.35), Brooke Peterson in 33rd (20:48.94), Alex Suhr in 35th (21:17.40) and Bobbie Sedlmajer in 36th (21:23.30).

Next up for the Jackrabbits is a men's and women's meet at the OZ Memorial in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday, Sept. 9. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
