Why did you choose to go to South Dakota State?

I chose to go to SDSU because I grew up not very far from here, and I was always a fan of the Jacks. I wanted to go to a big school that wasn't too far away, and it just seemed like a good fit for me.

When did you start playing golf, and why did it stick with you?

I started playing golf when I was eight years old. My dad got me into it. He grew up with a love for the game. He realized it's a great sport for people to play. It's a lifetime game. He wanted to get our whole family involved, and so when I was old enough to play, my whole family started playing.

Are there any golfers you look up to or model yourself after?

I don't really follow the LPGA or PGA Tour that closely. I'll watch it sometimes when it's on, but I don't really have any mentors. I met Natalie Gulbis one time. That was pretty cool, so I like to follow her. I also went to the Kris Tschetter camps when I was younger, so I've always been a fan of Kris Tschetter.

You are ranked in the top-10 in school history in multiple different categories. Do you ever think about that kind of stuff?

When I'm playing the record book isn't really in my mind. Afterwards, it's kind of cool to look at and see that you made it on there. It's always a dream to be on one of the top ones. I've never been on top of one of the records, I'm just in them. Hopefully that's something I can accomplish this year, to be on top of one of those.

The women's team won their first tournament of the Division I era last year. What was that like?

It was indescribable to be a part of that team. We came together. It really brought our team together. None of us had ever experienced that before. It's truly an honor to be the first team to do it.

What's your favorite class you have taken at SDSU?

I don't know if I have a specific favorite class. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is Calculus II because I'm a math major. I worked probably the hardest I have ever worked in that class. It was a great feeling when I got done with the final and did well. That's the class that I'll always remember the most, even though it wasn't my favorite.

What's your favorite movie?

I don't really have a favorite movie. I can watch Elf over and over again though, so I would probably say that is my favorite movie.

Who is the best golfer you have ever played against?

I think the best player I have ever played against is Kim Kaufman (now at Texas Tech) from Clark, South Dakota. We were in the same class division when I was in high school, and we played against each other every meet my senior year. She took first at every meet, and I took second at every meet. I would definitely say she is the best player that I have ever played against. She always amazes me. She can make any shot she wants to. She is having a great college career as well.

Which tournament do you think was your best tournament?

I'd say this last tournament at Illinois was the best I've ever played. I shot my lowest career score for college. It was just a great steady round. There were no major highs or lows, just a lot of pars and birdies. I made two mistakes on holes, but it's something I'll work on.

What do you think was the best shot of your career?

My favorite shot was when I was a sophomore at a tournament in Arizona. I holed out from about 115 yards for eagle on the last par-5. That was a pretty great moment because I had just taken an eight on the hole before that because of a really bad sand bunker lie. It was a pretty low to high moment for me.

If you could play one round of golf with anybody, who would it be?

Honestly, the person I would want to play a round of golf the most with is my dad. He's the one that taught me, and he knows my game the best. He continues to teach me, and now when we play together I teach him as much as he teaches me. He always loves to see me do well, so it's always a good time to golf with my dad.

Would you beat him?

I would definitely beat my dad. I beat him all the time now, and he gets pretty upset about it.

The Jackrabbit Spotlight will pick an SDSU student-athlete to interview each week. Interviews will be posted on GoJacks.com each Monday.
