Wright rides at WEF in Florida
WELLINGTON, Fla. - South Dakota State sophomore Santana Wright represented South Dakota State at the Third Annual Collegiate Equitation Challenge at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla., on Friday, but did not advance in the 16 rider bracketed event.
"This was a great show, a great experience, but unfortunately it's luck of the draw," assistant equestrian coach Kamerra Brown said. "Santana is a great student-athlete and rider and I couldn't be more proud of her of her effort today."
A Port Hope, Ontario native competing in over fences at the event, Wright carded a 75 in the first round, but fell to the eventual champion Kimberly McCormack of South Carolina, who advanced with a score of 86.5.
Wright then moved on to the consolation bracket, but drew a tough ride called Dena, and posted a score of 44, which ended her day, as Abbie Britton of Sacred Heart moved on the consolation round with a score of 60.
The Jackrabbit Western squad returns to action on Saturday at New Mexico State. Both the hunt seat and Western teams return to action together on Sunday, Feb. 19, when they travel to Fairfield Conn., to take on Sacred Heart.
