ROCHESTER, Mich. — The South Dakota State University men and women's swimming and diving teams broke a combined six school records on day one of the Summit League Championships Wednesday evening.
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Morgan McLain, Kaitlyn Hemmingson, Ashley Valdez and Shauna Foor finished fifth with a time of 1:47.71. The relay was .10 seconds away from a school record. McLain's 50-yard backstroke of 26.88 seconds to lead off the relay broke the school record.
The 800-yard freestyle relay relay team of Andrea Budahl, Nicole Grimit, Samantha Fossum and Jessica Ferley finished second in a school-record time of 7:34.66. Budahl's opening 200 time of 1:53.46 broke Alex Hoffman's school record by .01 seconds.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Phil Albu, Shea Patrick Chris Schreier and Wil Hogue finished fourth in a school-record time of 1:32.63. Albu's 50-yard backstroke of 23.55 seconds broke Benji Erickson's school record of 23.75 set in 2004.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Schreier, Yann Desjardins, Blake Yeager and Kyle Ochsner finished second in a school-record time of 6:50.88.
The women are in third after day one with 62 points. The men are in second with 64 points. Competition resumes Thursday morning.
