Marlee Petersen led off the Jackrabbit half of the third inning with her first homerun of the season in Saturday's rubber game with UMKC, but it represented the Jackrabbits only run in a 12-1, six inning loss to the Kangaroos.
South Dakota State falls to 8-19-1 overall with the loss and to 3-9 in The Summit League, while the preseason favorite Kangaroos improve to 17-20 overall and to 5-7 in league play.
Petersen's homer got the Jacks on the board, but they still trailed 5-1, as the visitors sandwiched a two-run first and third inning around a one-run second for more runs than they would need.
UMKC added a single run in the fifth inning, and then removed all doubt of the outcome in the sixth inning, when they capitalized on two hits and four Jackrabbit errors to score six runs.
The Jacks look to turn things around on Monday, when they travel to Grand Forks, N.D., to take on North Dakota in a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
