The South Dakota State University baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 12-6 victory over North Dakota Wednesday afternoon at Erv Huether Field.

The Jackrabbits improved to 12-20-1 overall, while UND dropped to 4-25 on the season.

UND opened the scoring with a first-inning run as Kris Kwak led off the game with a single and scored on Jeff Campbell's double to center field.

SDSU tied the game with a run in the home half of the first and took the lead for good with a three-run second inning. The first six batters of the second inning reached safely, starting with back-to-back singles by Aaron Machbitz and Eric Danforth. After Steven Autenrieth was hit by a pitch, Andrew Melton drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run. Zach Rhodes and Andrew Phelan followed with run-scoring singles.

Zach Trygstad doubled in a pair of runs in the third to pull UND to within a run at 4-3, but the Jackrabbits countered with eight runs between the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away. Phelan doubled in the first run of the fourth and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as he finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Eric Cain added a two-run double in the fifth as he recorded four RBI on the afternoon.

The Jackrabbits finished the game with 10 hits and also walked 10 times in the game. Rhodes added two hits for the Jackrabbits.

Campbell was 2-for-4 with three RBI, with Kwak and Riley Beck each adding two of UND's nine hits.

Freshman Nick Young pitched three innings of relief to earn his first collegiate victory for the Jackrabbits. Young allowed two runs after surrendering one hit and three walks, while striking out one. Seven different SDSU pitchers saw mound duty on Wednesday.

SDSU opens a four-game Summit League series Friday night at North Dakota State. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
