Jacks drop rubber game, 2-0
North Dakota State used a leadoff walk to manufacture a run in the first inning of Sunday's rubber game against South Dakota State for the only run they would need in a 2-0 win over the Jackrabbits.
The Bison added an insurance run in the form of a solo homerun from Taylor Mortensen in the sixth, and left the rest to starter Whitney Johnson, who struck out 12 walked one to get the win.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 13-27-1 overall and to 6-16 in The Summit League, while the Bison improve to 32-18 overall and remain atop the league standings with a 16-5 record.
Devon Reick went 2-for-3 to lead the Jackrabbit offense, but the next three batters behind her in the order combined to go 1-for-8 with a walk, which kept the Jacks off the board.
Pam Nicholson gave up the two runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts over five and a third innings before giving way to Kori Seidlitz, who pitched one and two thirds innings of hitless ball with one strikeout.
The Jackrabbits close the season next weekend at home with a three game series against IUPUI, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
