Jackrabbit softball signs two
The South Dakota State softball team signed a pair of players to National Letters of Intent on Monday, as Devan Larsen and Lauren Hamilton both signed letters indicating their plans to enroll at South Dakota State and play for the Jackrabbit softball team.
The two signees include Devan Larsen from Monroe, Wash., and Lauren Hamilton from Higginsville, Mo.
"I am excited for Devan and Lauren join our program next year," SDSU head coach Kim Aggabao said. "They're going to do great things here at SDSU."
An infielder at Monroe High School, Larsen earned second team all-Wesco North Conference honors in 2011 after earning honorable mention in 2010. She also served as the team captain in both her junior and senior years, and earned team MVP honors in 2011.
"Devan adds great depth to our infield," Aggabao said. "She can play up the middle and on the corner, and swings a good bat. I look forward to having her with us next year."
A three-year member of the National Honor Society, Larsen made the honor roll in all four years of high school.
Larsen plays club ball with the Washington Ladyhawks organization.
A catcher at St. Paul Lutheran High School, Hamilton earned four varsity letters in softball, and earned all-conference and all-tournament team honors at her conference tournament three times.
"Lauren is a great all-around athlete," Aggabao said. "She's a quality catcher that can hit for average and power. She has a good presence behind the plate, takes care of her pitchers and calls a good game. Lauren has a bright future here at SDSU."
Off the field, Hamilton served as the vice president of both her junior and senior class.
