GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning, defeating South Dakota State, 9-8, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Kraft Field.

UND improved to 13-31 overall, while the Jackrabbits, playing their final non-league game of the season, fell to 14-29-1.

North Dakota's game-winning rally came on the heels of the Jackrabbits breaking a 6-all tie on a two-run, two-out single by Zach Rhodes in the top of the ninth. Freshman closer J.D. Moore struck out two of the first three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth before Kyle Bolander cut the margin to 8-7 with a run-scoring single. After Seth Means kept the game alive with a base hit, Sam Alt tied the game with an infield single that scored pinch-runner Ben Clark. Means later scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Rhodes, who was 3-for-5 with four runs batted in to tie a career high, drove in Eric Cain with the first run of the game on a double in the fourth inning. UND took the lead with two runs in the home half of the frame and built a 5-1 lead on Bolander's three-run homer in the fifth.

The Jackrabbits trimmed the margin to 5-3 with two runs in the sixth, starting with a run-scoring single by Rhodes, and regained the lead at 6-5 with a three-run seventh. Beau Hanowski tripled in the first run, followed by an RBI double by Andrew Phelan. Phil Paquette capped the scoring with a single to center field. Hanowski, Phelan and Paquette each tallied two of the Jackrabbits' 10 hits - all of which came from the first five hitters in the lineup.

UND knotted the game at 6-all on a run-scoring triple by Tyler Follis. Bolander and Means each collected three of UND's 12 hits in the contest.

Brett DeGagne, who pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for UND, picked up the victory. Eight different pitchers saw mound duty for the Jackrabbits.

SDSU returns to Summit League action Thursday, when it opens a four-game series at Southern Utah.
