South Dakota State University assistant women's basketball coach Emilee (Gusso) Thiesse resigned Tuesday to accept the head coaching position at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Thiesse served two stints on the Jackrabbit coaching staff -- as a graduate assistant during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons and for the last three seasons as a full-time assistant. During her most recent stint, which she served as the team's recruiting and academic coordinator, SDSU made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances after winning the Summit League tournament title and added a league regular season title during the 2011-12 campaign.

A Spearfish native, Thiesse is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Kearney. She began her coaching career as a student assistant at UNK following her playing career for the Lopers. She also spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Drake (Iowa) before returning to SDSU.

Thiesee is the second Jackrabbit assistant coach this summer to gain a head coaching position; Chad Oletzke was named head coach at the University of Illinois-Springfield in June.

SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston said the process to fill Thiesse's position will begin immediately.
