SDSU men in sixth at Tetons

VICTOR, Idaho -- The South Dakota State University men's golf team stands in sixth place after 36 holes at the season-opening Battle at the Tetons.

The Jackrabbits stood in fifth place out of eight teams after Monday's first round after tallying a team score of 295, then slipped one spot with a 301 in the afternoon.

Individually, Hudson Carpenter and Greg Fehrman alternated rounds of 71 and 74 to pace the Jackrabbits with two-round totals of 145 to stand in a tie for sixth place. David Smith finished the day at 151 after rounds of 77 and 74, while Brian Wynia carded rounds of 73 nd 83 for a two-round total of 156. Freshman A.C. Sitter rounded out the Jackrabbit effort with a total of 161 (79-82). Fellow freshman Miles Knutsen competed as an individual and fired rounds of 81 and 79 to finish the day at 160.

Wyoming holds a commanding 24-stroke lead in the team standings after recording rounds of 277 and 285 for a 562 team total. Valparaiso (Ind.) is second at 586 -- 10 strokes ahead of the sixth-place Jackrabbits. Wyoming's Eddie Stewart is the individual leader at 137 after carding rounds of 68 and 69 on Monday.

The tournament's final round tees off Tuesday morning.
