Minneapolis — The South Dakota State Men’s Cross Country had a solid performance today, Friday, Sept. 7, at the OZ Memorial with a second-place finish.
The Jackrabbits were led by Trent Lusignan, who claimed a third place finish on the day, Lusignan finished with a time of 19:01.28. Jared Ailts was seconds behind him with a time of 19:22.74 and a fifth place finish.
Joel Reichow also had a great day as he was able to finish eighth with a time of 19:25.55.
In 24th was Jensen Orlow with a time of 20:03.05.
Phillip LaVallee competed in his first race as a Jackrabbit
and was able to finish 20:18.45, which was good enough for 31st.
Connor Branick completed the course 20:29.65, good enough for 37th.
Austin Hamm claimed the 44th spot as he finished in 20:37.80.
Every Jackrabbit runner at the OZ Memorial finished in the top 50.
Lusignan shattered his personal record of 19:45 in a 6k race.
Ailts also had a personal best day, as he dropped his personal record from 19:59 to 19:22.74.
As a team, the Jackrabbits scored 68 points, 18 behind first place and host Minnesota.
SDSU has now opened the 2012 season with back-to-back second-place finishes.
Jackrabbit fans will be able to see their favorite team run this Friday, Sept. 14, as the Cross Country teams will be at home competing in the SDSU Classic. The races will begin about 6:15 p.m. at the Edgebrook Country Course.
