Jacks host tourney in Sioux Falls
The South Dakota State University men's and women's golf teams will host the first-ever Division I golf tournament on South Dakota soil at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
The tournament begins Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. to kick off the opening round. After a break for lunch, round two begins at 1:30 p.m. Then on Monday morning the final round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with an awards ceremony to follow.
On the men's side, Minnehaha Country Club will play as 6,424-yard, par-70 course. For the women, the total yardage is 5,865 with a par of 71.
Competing at the inaugural tournament will be a host of local schools. The women's and men's field consists of mostly similar teams, with South Dakota, Northern Iowa, University of Sioux Falls, Omaha, North Dakota State and Augustana having teams on both sides. The women's field also has Creighton (Neb.), while the men's competition list includes North Dakota.
Besides golf, former LPGA star KrisTschetter is the special guest speaker at a dinner Sunday night, and will present copies of her book Mr. Hogan, the Man I Knew to student-athletes.
For the SDSU women, this will be the second tournament of the fall season after finishing 13th at the Redbird Invitational on Sept. 8-9. Senior Morgan Fitts was the top finisher for the Jacks, placing in a tie for 15th.
The Jackrabbit men's team looks to build off of a fifth-place finish at the Fairway Club Invitational on Sept. 10-11, where Hudson Carpenter shot a two-day total of 222 to place sixth.
