DOVER, Del. - The South Dakota State equestrian team rode in two shows on Saturday, both of which the Jackrabbits won. SDSU opened the day with a 9-7 win over UT-Martin, and then downed host Delaware State 10-6 in the afternoon.

"We came into this weekend prepared and eager to win. We rode smart and everything came together, and winning two meets today is a great testament to our hard work," SDSU head coach Megan Rossiter said. "The day started off with great momentum winning three of the four rides in over fences, and that carried over, as we won seven of the eight reining runs and five of the eight MOP awards.  It was a great day for Jackrabbit equestrian."

The Jackrabbits improve to 2-3 on the season after the wins. Delaware State falls to 0-5, while UT-Martin falls to 0-2.

The Jacks won three of the four MOP awards against UT-Martin, including both in the hunt seat events. Megan Violand scored an 80 on the flat to earn MOP honors, while Lauren Kerr picked up her first MOP of the season over fences with a score of 83.

Jana Basler led the Jackrabbit reiners with a 72 to boost her record to 3-1 and picked up her second MOP in the process.

The host Hornets won two of the four MOP awards in the other show of the day, but the Jacks scored three of the four point over fences and three of the four reining points to secure the 10-6 win. Kelsey Champagne scored one of the two points in horsemanship and won MOP against Delaware State. Champagne carded a 74.5 in horsemanship to earn her first MOP of the season.

Santana Wright scored an 87 on the flat to win a point and MOP honors, one of two points for SDSU on the flat.

Jackrabbit freshman Lexus Hoffman won both of her rides on the day, the first wins of her young career. Kerr boosted her overall record on the flat to 4-1 on the season with a pair of wins on Saturday, and added a pair of wins over fences, her first of the season.

The Jackrabbits return to action on Nov. 16, when they return home for a busy weekend of action at the DeHaan Equestrian Center when they welcome Georgia and New Mexico State for three days of riding in Brookings.
