Equestrian opens spring season Saturday
The South Dakota State equestrian team enters the arena on Saturday for the first time since its wins over No. 3 Georgia in a nail-biting tiebreaker, and over No. 9 New Mexico State with a 10-5 final score. The Jackrabbits host the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles at home on Saturday, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
South Dakota State begins this weekend with 4-3 overall record for the 2012-13 season. This marks the first meeting between the Jacks and Golden Eagles since their 2010 season competition in Crookston, Minn. Currently, the Jacks hold a 2-1 mark in three meeting against Minnesota-Crookston.
"Everyone came back this semester just as strong, if not stronger as when they had left for break," SDSU head coach Megan Rossiter said. "We feel very confident going into this weekend.
Saturday marks the first of the Jackrabbits' three home shows this spring.
"The team has been practicing hard, and we're all anticipating a great show," senior captain Hannah Stone said. "We ended the season with some great rides and we plan to do the same this weekend."
After this weekend's home competition, the Jackrabbits take a two-week respite before hosting a triple header with the SMU Mustangs and the Sacred Heart Pioneers at the DeHaan Center on Feb. 23-24.
Live scoring for Saturday's show can be found on Facebook (South Dakota State Equestrian) and via Twitter (@JackrabbitEQ), with show results on GoJacks.com after the competition.
