SDSU finishes up day one at ISU
AMES, Iowa – Drew Kraft had quite the day for himself as he set two personal bests, one in the 3000-meter run and the other in the mile. On the women’s side, Megan Bren placed tenth in the 200-meter dash.
The day began for the Jackrabbits with the 3000-meter run, where Kraft finished third in his heat and fourteenth overall. Kraft finished the race with a time of 8:34.24, which is a new personal best for him. At the Husker Invite last weekend, Kraft posted a time of 8:40.24, which stood as his personal best until today.
Kraft also participated in the mile run today where he ran a time of 4:19.28. His time today beats his old personal best of 4:22.88, which he set last year at the Bill Bergan Invite.
Nathaniel Schaefer competed in the pole-vault event, where he placed eighth with a height of 14’ 09.50”.
Fresh off his win last weekend Justin Carson was back in action in the 400-meter dash. Carson posted a time of 50.98 seconds.
Phillip LaVallee ran the 800-meter run in 1:56.81.
Anthony Bongard completed the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:05.72.
In the 200-meter dash Luke Leischner finished with a time of 22.13 seconds.
The women also found success in their events on the day as well. Bren posted a time of 25.32 in the 200-meter to finish tenth. Also in the 200-meter dash Ashley Odegaard set a personal best with her time of 25.74 seconds.
Odegaard took 11th in the long jump with her mark of 17’ 1.50”.
In the 60-meter dash Odegaard placed 17th with her time 7.85, while Bren finished 18th with a time of 7.86 and Carly Carper ran a time of 7.88 to finish 20th.
Samantha Anderson posted a time of 5:12.24 in the mile run.
In the 400-meter dash Jessica McDonald finished with a time of 1:00.38.
Krista Creager clocked in at 2:15.77 during the 800-meter run.
In the women's 5000-meter run Erin Hargens finished sixth with a time of 17:33.56. Hargen’s recorded a personal best today with her time. Also in the 5000-meter run, Courtney Neubert won her heat with a time of 17:54.45. Neubert also set a personal best today with her time in the 5000-meter run.
The Jackrabbits will be back in action again tomorrow as they finish up day two of the ISU Classic. There will also be a group of athletes heading up to Fargo, N.D. to compete in the Bison Open.
