Garner wins big in Arkansas
Fayetteville, Ark. -- The South Dakota State track and field teams found great results today as they saw two runners set personal bests out in California and a win in Fayetteville. Both Tera Potts and Trent Lusignan both set personal bests in their respective events and Brooke Garner won the hammer throw at the Razorback Spring Invite.
Potts competed at the Stanford Invite running the 3000-meter steeplechase today, she clocked in at 10:47.93 taking ninth in her heat.
A pair of Jackrabbits also competed a half-hour up highway 101 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Lusignan and Erin Hargens both took part in the 5000-meter race.
Lusignan topped his new personal best, which he set last week, today when he ran a 14:13.11. He placed ninth out of 132 runners.
Hargens placed 29th, clocking in at 17:36.96.
In the 100-meter dash Greenway finished first with a time of 11.46, and Mercil placed fourth with his time of 11.84.
Mercil would out jump Greenway in the long jump with his distance of 19’ 3.50. Greenway recorded a distance of 19’ 1.50”.
Mercil placed second in the shot put with his mark of 37’ 1.25”. Greenway notched a distance of 32’ 07.75”.
The final event for the day was the high jump. Mercil and Greenway placed fourth and fifth with marks of 5’ 05.25 and 5’ 00.50” respectively.
After day one of action Mercil is currently fourth and Greenway is in fifth. The final six events will take place tomorrow.
The Jacks had a few throwers compete in the hammer throw tonight at the Razorback Spring Invite.
Ryan Ackman finished with a distance of 159’ 8.00”.
On the women’s side, Garner won the hammer throw with a distance of 192’ 9.00”. Today’s win for Garner was her 26th of her career at SDSU.
Also in the hammer throw, Shelby Assmus recorded a mark of 155’ 9.00”.
The Jackrabbits will be back in action tomorrow as they wrap-up day two at the Razorback Spring Invite and the Wayne State Sunshine Invite.
