Bougher, Telford honored
ELMHURST, Ill. — South Dakota State University baseball players Stephen Bougher and Daniel Telford have been honored by The Summit League for their efforts in leading the Jackrabbits to three victories this past weekend.
A senior from Papillion, Neb., Bougher was named co-Summit League Pitcher of the Week after hurling a three-hit shutout April 14 at Oakland. The right-hander scattered three singles, while walking one and striking out three in recording his second shutout of the season and fifth of his career. Bougher, who shared the honor with Fort Wayne's Jason Kalber, improved to 4-1 on the season.
Telford, a senior from Newmarket, Ontario, was selected as Summit League Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks after batting .700 (7-for-10) with eight runs batted in over two games. He opened the week by going 4-for-5 with two home runs and a career-high six runs batted in as the Jackrabbits won Game 2 of a doubleheader April 12 at Fort Wayne. He followed that by going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI as the Jackrabbits completed a doubleheader sweep of Oakland on April 14. Telford also compiled a 1.400 slugging percentage in the two games and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
The Jackrabbits have had their home game scheduled for Tuesday against North Dakota called off due to unplayable field conditions at Erv Huether Field. A location for this weekend's Summit League games against Omaha (April 19) and Western Illinois (April 21) will be made in the coming days.
