South Dakota State women’s tennis student-athlete Florencia Magni earned Player of the Week honors after a 5-0 cluster.

Magni played No. 1 singles and finished 3-0 in four meets and teamed with Beatriz Souza for a 2-0 record at No. 3 doubles.

On Thursday, Magni helped the Jackrabbits win two meets versus Oakland (4-1) and South Dakota (4-0). In singles, she defeated Emily Raidt (OU) 6-3, 6-3 and Milica Pavlovic (USD) 6-2, 6-4. Doubles versus Oakland did not play, but Magni and Souza defeated Veronika Makashov and Nina Barudzic (USD) 8-0.

On Friday versus Omaha, Magni’s singles match was unfinished, but she paired with Souza for an 8-3 win versus Jacqueline Baude and Rachel Pierson.

In the season and cluster finale, Magni helped SDSU clinch its first postseason berth with another shutout versus IUPUI. In singles, she defeated Bobbi Modesto 6-1, 6-2. Doubles did not play.

"The entire team played phenomenal tennis over the weekend and every one of our players could have earned the award this week," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Flor rose to the occasion at the No. 1 position and played some of the best tennis she has played all year. It is great to see the hard work pay off, not only for her, but for the entire team."

The perfect weekend upped Magni’s singles record to 12-11 overall, 4-2 in The Summit League and 9-7 at the top spot. In doubles, Magni and Souza improved to 11-3 overall, the best winning percentage of any SDSU team, and 2-2 in the league.

The women's tennis team finished the season on a seven-meet winning streak. In that time, the Jacks outscored other teams 35-3. In the final four meets, all at the conference cluster, SDSU outscored its opponents 16-1.

The complete release is available on The Summit League website.

The Jacks finished the regular season with a 15-9 overall record, 5-2 in The Summit League and third in the conference standings, its best record and highest finish in the league since becoming a member.

The Summit League Championships are set for April 26-27. The host is to be determined.
