Engdahl named Coach of the Year
South Dakota State tennis head coach Michael Engdahl was named Men's Tennis Coach of the Year after the men’s runner-up finish in the regular season standings
The Jacks closed the regular season at 11-10 overall and a stellar 4-1 in league play, good for second in the final standings. SDSU finished the regular season on a five-meet winning streak and finished league play on a four-meet winning streak. The Jacks outscored opponents 26-5 in its final five meets.
SDSU finished three spots ahead of its preseason poll projection, as voted on by the league coaches. In the preseason poll, the team received 11 points in the six-team poll, one behind fourth-place Western Illinois and five behind third-place Fort Wayne.
The men’s tennis team made history this season, with the highest league finish (2nd), best league record (4-1) and most all-league honorees (three).
The award is the first for a South Dakota State tennis coach.
