South Dakota State head men’s basketball coach Scott Nagy announced the addition of former Roosevelt High School standout Cody Larson to the Jackrabbit roster on Tuesday. A transfer from the University of Florida, the 6-foot-9, 231 pound forward indicated his plans to enroll at SDSU in the fall and compete for the men’s basketball team.

“We’re very pleased to have Cody join our team for the next two years. I don’t think there was a head coach that saw him play more in high school than I did, and I know what he’s capable of as a player,” Nagy said. “He fits a couple of needs that we have moving forward. First, we needed a player in the junior class along with Zach Horstman, and second, when Marcus Heemstra and Jordan Dykstra leave us, he’ll help fill a big hole in the middle. He’s excited to come home and finish his degree at SDSU, be near his family and play with several guys he knows well.”

As of now, due to transfer rules, Larson must sit out the 2013-14 season, but can compete for the Jackrabbits in 2014-15.

In one season at Florida, after a redshirt year, Larson saw action in 25 games for the Gators off the bench in 2011-12; scoring 12 points, with 21 rebounds, two blocks and an assist in 143 minutes.

Larson averaged 19.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game in earning all-Greater Dakota Conference honors three times at Roosevelt, adding a pair of Class ‘AA’ all-state nods for the Rough Riders in both 2008 and 2009.
