Michele Schmidt joined the staff at South Dakota State University in November 2013, and serves as the primary contact for the Jackrabbits’ volleyball, women’s basketball and golf teams.
Before joining the sports information staff, Schmidt served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations at Niagara University (2003 to 2007), and as an Assistant Sports Information Director at Kansas State University (1999-2003), the University of Cincinnati (1996-99), and Canisius College (1995-96).
During her 10-plus years in the sports information profession, Schmidt has provided assistance at numerous conference and NCAA postseason events, including the Women’s Final Four in 1997. She has also won district honors from CoSIDA for five publications, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-America District Coordinator from 1999 to 2007.
Schmidt, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., is a graduate of the SUNY Brockport, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications, with minors in sports management and coaching. She earned a master’s degree in physical education from Canisius College and an associate’s degree in horticulture from Niagara County Community College.
Schmidt and her husband, Matt, who is the senior news editor/media relations coordinator for the SDSU University Marketing & Communications Office, live in Brookings.
