Began the season in the bullpen before earning a spot as a mid-week starter ... made a total of 10 
appearances, four of which were starts ... did not allow a run in his first three outings, including pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in season debut, against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) (2/25) ... earned first collegiate victory in first career start, striking out career-high three batters in two shutout innings against Winnipeg (4/8) ... pitched three innings of one-run ball against Dakota State in next start (4/15) ... ended season with pair of no-decisions after allowing only one run in three innings versus Creighton (Neb.) (4/29) and four innings at North Dakota (5/12)

Enjoyed an outstanding all-around prep career at Storm Lake High School, where he was a highly decorated athlete in four sports ... named Siouxland Male Athlete of the Year in 2013 by the Sioux City Journal ... in baseball, was a four-time all-district 
selection and two-time all-state honoree ... compiled 7-1 record with a 1.34 earned run average as a senior, recording 84 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings and holding opponents to a .138 batting average ... hit 15 career home runs in helping lead team to pair of state tournament berths ... qualified four times for the state track and field meet in the discus, winning a state title as a senior with a throw of 176 feet, 4 inches ... also was a two-time all-district selection in football as a tight end and defensive end ... caught 27 passes for 464 yards and three touchdowns his senior season, adding 65 tackles and 10 tackles for loss on defense ... earned all-conference honors two times in basketball, averaging 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game as a senior
