Phil Hurley enters his ninth season as assistant men's and women's swimming and diving coach at South Dakota State. Hurley is the recruiting coordinator for SDSU, specializes in the distance events and assists head coach Brad Erickson with team practices and events.
Hurley says, “I have swam and worked with a lot of great coaches and by being an athlete myself I try to pass along my experiences to the athletes so they can learn from my past successes.”
Hurley competed collegiately at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., where he served as team captain for three seasons before graduating in 1998.
After completing a military commitment in the U.S. Army, Hurley enrolled in graduate school at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., serving as a graduate assistant swimming coach for two seasons while completing a master's degree in exercise, fitness and health promotion. While at George Mason, Hurley also coached several club and youth teams in Northern Virginia.
Coach Hurley is the Chair of South Dakota Masters Swimming branch and is a member of the United States Masters Swimming organization.
