Rabbits return to Oz

The South Dakota State men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Falcon Heights, Minn. to compete in the Oz Memorial on Friday night.

The University of Minnesota hosts the Oz Memorial. Due to the projected heat in Falcon Heights, the women will run at 6:40 p.m. and the men will run at 7:20 p.m.


The men finished in second place overall and were led by Trent Lusignan who finished in third. Lusignan ran a time of 19:01.28.

Laura Lawton led the Jackrabbits to a third place finish at last year’s meet. Lawton placed 19th with her time of 23:29.33.


The SDSU men are looking to continue their momentum from last week’s first place finish at the Bison Open. Joel Reichow won the Bison Open and he was honored with The Summit League Athlete of the Week.

The Jackrabbit women are bringing back experienced runners from last year’s meet. Six of the seven runners at the 2012 Oz Memorial were freshmen.


Drake, Minnesota, Minnesota State-Mankato and North Dakota will compete against SDSU on the women’s side. The Gophers are the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men’s race will five teams competing. Drake, Minnesota, Minnesota State-Mankato and North Dakota will join SDSU in the men’s race.


The Jackrabbits will not compete again until the Griak Invitational on September 28. The University of Minnesota also hosts the Griak Invitational.
