The Jackrabbits went 1-3 in doubles action on the day. Ffion Davies and Jenny Blackburne defeated a Golden Gopher squad 8-1 in the gold flight.

"Ffion and Jenny started the day off with a great doubles win against Minnesota," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "They were down and were able to come up with the win while fighting off some match points. They played some clutch points when they needed to and definitely earned the win.”

The doubles team of Tacy Haws-Lay and Tiffany Filopovich and Florencia Magni and Iasmin Rosa both suffered defeats in the maroon flight. They lost to pairs from Wisconsin and Minnesota 8-1 and 8-6, respectively Brooke Henry and Beatriz Souza lost 8-4 to a tandem from North Dakota.

In her Jackrabbit debut, Iasmin Rosa went 2-0 on the day, defeating Elvira Lopez (Northern Iowa) 6-3, 7-5 and Maria Paula Ribero (EMU) 6-2, 6-1. Rosa competed in the maroon flight

"Iasmin played phenomenal for her first matches as a Jackrabbit," Engdahl said. "She had two great singles wins and handled herself well on court for this being her first tournamen."

In the Gopher flight, Tacy Haws-Lay defeated Carolina Anderson (Iowa State) and Marina Arriota (USD).

In the U flight, Davies fell to Aria Lambert (Minnesota) 6-4, 7-6  in the Gopher flight before topping Klavidja Rebol (Wisconsin) 5-0, before Rebol retired.

In the gold flight, Blackburne fell 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 to Kendall Heitzner and Ankita Bhatia of Minnesota and Eastern Michigan, respectively.

In the M flight, Florencia Magni lost 6-3, 6-2 to Terez Crichacova (Minnesota) and 6-4, 6-3 to Katie Edwards (Gonzaga).

"I am extremely happy with the way the girls played today," Engdahl said. "We didn’t back down from any challenge and came up with some quality wins. We were in every match we played which is exactly what we want for the first matches of the year against solid opponents. We are picking up on more things to work on each match and I know the girls are excited to get back to work tomorrow."
