Jackrabbits open fall slate at Omaha Invitational
OMAHA, Neb. -- The South Dakota State men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Omaha Invitational Friday night. In all, the men went 4-5 in singles action.
Parker Lawley advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals in flight A with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Nebraska-Omaha's Tyler Mercier. In flight B action, Andrea Boglic fell to North Dakota's Ryan McGuigan 6-4, 7-6 (3), while Mateus Moreira defeated Nebraska Kearney's Neto Cacace 6-1, 6-1. In flight C, Henrique Pereira dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Creighton's Quinn Dippel.
"The guys had to battle through some first-meet jitters," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We'll be ready to go tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing how hungary they will be in their first matches tomorrow."
In flight D, Lovro Curcija defeated Northern Colorado's Eric Schuemans 6-3, 6-0, while Lucas Pereira fell to UND's Will Biermat 6-1, 6-1. Jonny Higham dropped a hard fought, 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 decision to Creighton's Anthony Rauschenbach in flight E. Gary Notkin defeated UNO's Nate Greteman 6-2, 6-2 in flight F action. Luis Duque fell 6-3, 6-3 to Creighton's Jake Glazer in flight G.
Play will resume tomorrow with doubles action kicking off the day at 9 a.m.
