Jackrabbits travel to Omaha Invitational
OMAHA, Neb. -- The South Dakota State women's tennis team continued its fall season as they traveled to Nebraska to compete in the Omaha Invite. SDSU won three of eight singles matches on the day.
SDSU's three wins came via Jenny Blackburne, Tiffany Filipovich and Ffion Davies. Blackburne opened the invite with a 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 win over Creighton's Amanda Noonan in flight C. Filipovich was victorious over North Dakota's Mikaela Bennett 6-3, 6-2 in flight D. Davies defeated Nebraska Kearney's Kristin Weems 6-4, 6-1 in flight B.
"We had a day of ups and downs," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We looked tired at times after the four-hour trip. We need to be better in that situation, though, as we'll face that a lot this season."
Florencia Magni dropped a hard fought decision to Nebraska Omaha's Hylan Miller, 1-6, 7-5, 12-10 in flight A action, while Iasmin Rosa fell to UNO's Alex Tran 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the same flight. Tacy Haws-Lay fell to North Dakota's Callie Ronkowski 7-6 (5), 7-5 in flight B. Beatriz Souza fell to UNO's Tiffany Hoffman 6-1, 6-4 in flight D, while Brooke Henry fell to UNO's Allison Johnson 6-2, 6-1.
Doubles action will kick off tomorrow at 9 a.m. with quarterfinal singles action to follow.
