SDSU finishes 5th at UMKC Fall Invite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Jackrabbits women's golf team fired a 309 in the final round of the UMKC Kangaroo Fall Invitational on Tuesday to finish in 5th place.

The third round score of 309 is tied for the seventh-lowest round in SDSU DI history. Combined with scores of 323 and 314 on Monday, the Jacks posted the eighth-lowest 54-hole score in school history with a total of 946, beating Drake by one stroke (317-315-315-947).

Freshman Islamiah Fuad earned the first top-10 finish of her young season and career. The Perak, Malaysia, native notched a 76 in the final round after posting back-to-back rounds of 77 on Monday to finish tied for 9th place.

Fuad posted season-low and career-low scores across the board: lowest round (76), lowest 36-hole score (154) and lowest 54-hole score (230). The freshman notched five birdies over the course of the tournament, held at the 6,124-yard, par-72 Shoal Creek Golf Club.

Megan Mingo joined her fellow classmate in the top-25 after rounds of 83, 77 and 78. The Yankton, S.D., native tied for 21st place with a three-round total of 238. The freshman posted three birdies at the tourney.

Sophomore Brianna Janu tied for 28th place with a two-day score of 241. The Glenwood, Minn., product shot rounds of 78, 86 and 77. Janu carded two of her three birdies at the tournament in the final round Tuesday.

Sydney MacDonald finished the tournament with a score of 242, tying for 31st place. The sophomore posted scores of 85, 79 and 78.

Junior Alli Plath shot rounds of 87, 81 ad 79 for a two-day total of 247, good for 37th place.

Competing unattached as an individual, Amber Houser finished tied for 41st place. The junior scored rounds of 85, 81 and 86 for a tournament total of 252. Her score of 81 in round two ties a season-low 18-hole score.

Also golfing unattached, sophomore Michaela Kouri tied for 44th place with rounds of 85, 87 and 82 for a 54-hole score of 256. Kouri's final round of 82 on Tuesday is a season-low 18-hole score.

Southern Illinois took home the team title by 10 strokes over Bradley(299-317-303-919). The Salukis posted rounds of 308, 291 and 310 for a total of 909.

Bradley's Danielle Lemek was the tournament champion with rounds of 72, 75 and 73 for a 54-hole score of 220 (four-over-par).

The Jacks are back in action this weekend at the LPGA Xavier Invitational on Oct. 5-7 at the 6,178-yard, par-72 LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
