The South Dakota State women's soccer team beat their in-state rival South Dakota 1-0 on Friday night at Fishback Soccer Park. Alyssa Brazil scored the game-winning goal for SDSU.

Winds around twenty-five miles per hour created less than perfect playing conditions for the Coyotes and Jackrabbits, but the game had to go on. The high gusts hindered shot attempts throughout the game.

"It was a collective effort, we are finding ways to win, that is something we did not do last year,” noted head coach Lang Wedemeyer on the 2013 squad. “Even though it’s a young team, it shows our maturity.”

South Dakota’s Elena Tsakakis had the first shot of the game between the two teams with less than a minute into the game (00:59). Nicole Inskeep stepped up for her first of four saves during the game.

The South Dakota State offense rattled off three shots within the first 17 minutes of the game. Brazil’s first shot attempt of the game went wide (4:14). Megan Kingston followed that up with a shot of her own a few minutes later (6:29). Kingston’s shot was blocked by the Coyote defense. Mackenzie Viktor tallied her first save of the game at the 16:44 mark of the game on Brazil’s second shot.

SDSU and USD traded shots with each other 13 minutes later. Viktor posted her second save of the game via Delaney Ratcliffe’s shot on goal (29:40). A little over a minute later (30:42), Teagen Eberle’s shot was blocked setting up a Coyote corner kick. USD was not able to capitalize on the corner leaving the game still scoreless.

The Jackrabbits and Coyotes headed into the halftime break knotted at zero. The game did not remain tied for much longer after the start of the second half.

Under two minutes after the start of the second half, Brazil's shot attempt went wide. Her next shot though ended the scoreless tie.

Shelby Raper took the ball past the Coyote on the right side of the field and fired a shot, which hit the crossbar. Brazil was alone on the left side to net her fifth goal of the season.

The Rabbits continued to dominate the second half as they outshot the Coyotes 8-2. Inskeep saved both Coyote attempts in the second half.

Jamie Karch took her first shot of the game at the 56:36 mark, but Inskeep and the Jackrabbit defense were there to stop Karch. The second attempt for the Coyotes came in the 83rd minute on Colleen Reeves' shot. Inskeep collected her fourth and final save of the game to preserve the clean sheet for the Jackrabbits.

Viktor posted five saves in the game.

In the end the Jackrabbits outshot the Coyotes 13-6.

Brazil completed the game with five shots to lead the team; three of those shots were on goal. Six different Coyotes were tied with one shot each to lead USD.

In the 13 games the Jackrabbits have played this year they have tallied eight shutouts. Inskeep has a Goals Allowed Average of .59 and has 48 saves to her name.

The Jackrabbits have controlled the second half of games this year. They have outscored their opponents 12-2 and outshot them 101-48.

SDSU improves to 8-3-2 (3-0-0) on the season, while USD falls to 5-5-3 (0-2-0).

The Jackrabbits finish out the weekend at home on Sunday as the host Omaha at 1 p.m.
