Men's swimming and diving falls in opener

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The South Dakota State men's swimming and diving team lost to the University of North Dakota 192-106 and St. Cloud State 178.50-121.50 to start the season.

Wil Hogue was edged out in the 50-freestyle by one-hundredths of a second with a time of 21.06 seconds.

Clark Kocourek finished second in the 3-meter dving with 303.95 points and third in the 1-meter diving with 255.35 points.

The 400 freestyle relay of Cody Hoyes, Garth Wadsworth, Phil Albu and Ben Bolinske finished second with a time of 3:13.13.

The 200 medley relay team of Albu, John Overman, Tony Mikrut and Hogue finished third with a time of 1:35.43.

Matt Carpenter finished third (10:01.14) and Chris Angerhofer finished fourth (10:10.69) in the 1,000-freesttyle.

Wadsworth finished third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.05.

Bolinske finished third in the 100-freestyle with a time of 47.91 seconds.

The men will next compete at Green Bay on Nov. 2.
