Women's swimming impressive in home opener

South Dakota State jumped out to an early lead in the 200 medley relay and never looked back en route to a 183-117 win over Omaha Sunday afternoon at HPER Center Pool.

SDSU recorded the three best times in the event as Hadlie Overhue, Emily Campbell, Nicole Grimit and Devonne Dalin finished with a winning time of 1:50.50.

The Jacks also went one, two and three in the 1,000 freestyle as seniors Andee Budahl and Emma Gaulke-Janowski and freshman Kendra Hinton finished with times of 10:44.30, 10:54.82 and 11:02.62, respectively. Budahl also won the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:18.27.

Nicoel Grimit won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.62. In the 200 backstroke, freshman Elizabeth Buchholz came in first with a time of 2:13.66.

Senior Devonne Dalin won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.77 and Emily Campbell won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.42.

Freshman Alecia Winston won the 1-meter dive with a score of 215.70. Sophomore Olivia Olesiak took second with a mark of 212.17 - Olesiak also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 2:41.36.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Dalin, Abby Zenner, McKenna Shallberg and Kaylin Caron took second with a time of 1:39.74.

SDSU will return to the pool on Oct. 18 as they host Iowa State. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.
