BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University head women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston announced Wednesday four members of the high school Class of 2014 have signed national letters of intent to play for the Jackrabbits next season.

Signing Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, were:

- Alexis Alexander, 5-7, guard, Brooklyn Park, Minn. (Champlin Park High School)

- Macy Miller, 5-10, guard, Mitchell, S.D. (Mitchell High School)

- Kaitlyn Severyn, 6-0, guard, Pierre, S.D. (Pierre T.F. Riggs High School)

- Ellie Thompson, 6-1, forward, Chaska, Minn. (Chaska High School)

“Signing day is always an exciting day for our program.  Ellie, Kaitlyn, Lexi, and Macy will be great additions to our basketball family,” Johnston said.  “Early in the recruiting process, it was clear these young women would be great Jackrabbits on and off the court.  We are so very fortunate to continue to add wonderful people and highly talented players to our program.  Our fans will love watching them as Jackrabbits in the coming years.”

Alexander averaged 11 points, four rebounds and five assists per game as a junior at Champlin Park High School.  The team MVP in 2013, Alexander is a three-time All-Northwest Suburban Conference selection and was named to the 2013 Sport Jam All-Area Team.  She also helped the North Tartan AAU team win the 2011 AAU National Championship.  The two-time team captain enters her senior season with 760 career points.

Miller, a first team all-state selection last season, helped the Mitchell Kernels to the 2012 state title and a runner-up spot in 2013 while earning all-tournament honors.  She has also helped Mitchell post a 46-5 record the past two seasons.  Last season, Miller averaged 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals per game, set the single-season scoring record (493) and earned All-Eastern South Dakota Conference honors.  The guard was named the 2013 Daily Republic Player of the Year, to the Argus Leader First Five and a KORN Elite 8 Athlete.   Miller was a prep teammate of current Jackrabbits freshman Kerri Young.

Severyn averaged 11.1 points and 7.7 boards per game as a junior and has already set Pierre T.F. Riggs’ career rebounds record (720).  The three-time All-Eastern South Dakota Conference selection helped the Governors to an 11-12 record last year.

Thompson, a three-time All-Missota Conference selection, was also named to the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State third team in 2012-13.  She averaged 17.4 points and 8.7 rebounds while shooting 58.9 percent from the field and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line as a junior.  As a sophomore, Thompson averaged 13.8 ppg and 7.1 rpg, and as a freshman 10.3 ppg and 8.7 rpg.

The South Dakota State women’s basketball program has made five consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament after winning five Summit League Tournament titles.  The Jackrabbits have also won four regular-season titles in the last five years, including the 2012-13 season.

The Jackrabbits host Georgetown University in their home opener Friday at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena.
