NEW ORLEANS — South Dakota State University football player Winston Wright will be honored at halftime of the Allstate Sugar Bowl tonight (Wednesday) as a member of the Allstate Good Works Team.

Wright arrived in New Orleans earlier this week and participated with other Good Works team members in a youth football clinic at Isidore Newman School on New Year's Day.

A senior from Lee's Summit, Mo., Wright was named to the 22-player Allstate Good Works Team in September for his vast community involvement. Throughout his career as a Jackrabbit, Wright organized or participated in numerous service activities, including leading two groups of SDSU students to Harmons, Jamaica, and assisting in the building of six homes. He also participated in shoe donations and sports camps on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Samaritan’s Feet organizations, along with mentoring children and speaking at local schools and churches about making positive decisions.

On the field, Wright was a three-year starter at cornerback and elected a team captain during his junior and senior seasons. A two-time all-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection, Wright capped his playing career in 2013 by earning third-team All-America recognition from The Sports Network as he shared the team lead with four interceptions, while adding 52 tackles, a sack, a team-high four forced fumbles and a blocked kick.

Kickoff for the Allstate Sugar Bowl between Oklahoma and Alabama is set for 7:30 p.m., with television coverage on ESPN.
