Jacks return to the pool at St. Pete's Classic
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- South Dakota State opened the second half of its season Saturday at the St. Pete's Classic in Florida. In all, SDSU won 11 events on the day.
The women's 200 freestyle relay teams took first and second with times of 1:44.39 and 1:48.28, respectively. SDSU's winning relay squad included Devonne Dalin, Abby Zenner, McKenna Shallberg and Kayce Smith. SDSU also won the 800 freestyle relay, as Andrea Budahl, Selina Gilbertson, Hadlie Overhue and Nicole Grimit finished with a mark of 8:30.80.
In the 3x100 butterfly relay, Emmalee Wright, Fawn Weihl and Julia Bodnaruk won with a time of 3:08.14. In the 3x100 breastroke relay, Emily Campbell, Jessie Hendricks and Kayce Smith took first with a winning time of 3:31.60. In the 500 freestyle relay, Kristi Alfano, Katie Cook, Trina Young and Fawn Weihl recorded a first-place time of 5:12.37.
SDSU also won the 1500 freestyle and the 200 yard medley relays. In the 1500, Kelsey Boucher, Andrea Budahl and Emma Gaulke-Janowski won with a time of 5:44.01, while the 200 medley squad of Samantha Prasher, Emily Campbell, Abby Zenner and McKenna Shallberg won with a time of 1:55.64.
On the men's side, the 200 freestyle relay team of Ben Bolinske, Phil Albu, Daniel Jacobson and Yann Desjardins were victorious in 1:31.19. In the 3x100 backstroke relay, Albu, Jacobson and Alex McLain won with a time of 2:48.58.
In the 500 freestyle relay, Tony Mikrut, Bolinske, Garth Wadsworth and Geoffrey Longhurst won with a mark of 4:26.12. The Jacks also won the 1500 freestyle relay, as Matt Carpenter, Chris Angerhofer and Blake Yeager finished in 5:10.60. Jacobson, Desjardins, Nathaniel Weinman and Angerhofer also won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.52.
SDSU returns home to host in-state rival South Dakota on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
