Bison Classic on tap for Jackrabbits

The South Dakota State track and field teams will take part in the Bison Classic on Saturday as they resume their 2013-14 indoor schedule.

The Competition: The Jacks are slated to compete against the University of Manitoba, the University of Mary and host North Dakota State.  

The Meet: The Bison Classic will take place at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo, N.D. The field events will start at 9 a.m., with the women’s weight throw. The running events are scheduled for 2 p.m., with the prelims of the women’s 60-meter hurdles.

Last Time Out: The Jackrabbits began the 2013-14 season back on Fri., Dec. 6 in Fargo at the Dakota Duals. Jeremiah Ary won both the long jump and triple jump events. He claimed his long jump title with a distance of 23 feet, 5 ¼ inches and won the triple jump with a mark of 46-1 ¼. Both marks he posted at the Dakota Duals are indoor-personal bests for him. Austin Johnsen and Ryan Swenson made their SDSU debuts as they both finished in the top-five in the 600-meter run. Johnsen took second place with his final time of 1 minute, 23 seconds and Swenson ran a time of 1:24.59 to finish fifth overall.

On the women’s side, Mary Wirth picked up where she left off after redshirting last year. Wirth won the high jump event with a mark of 5-5 and Kali Olson placed second with her height of 5-5. Carly Carper started her sophomore season off on a high note as she placed in the top-three in three events. She finished third in the 60-meter dash (7.79), second in the 200 (25.26) and third in the long jump (18-1 ½).
