Rabbits claim a pair of 4-3 matches
STILLWATER, Okla. -- South Dakota State (2-1, 0-0) won a pair of non-conference matches Saturday in Oklahoma as the Jacks bested Southern Illinois and Oral Roberts.
SDSU defeated SIU 4-3 in the morning before traveling to Tulsa to take on ORU at 8 p.m. The Jacks also beat ORU, 4-3.
"I am so proud of our guys," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Saturday was a big day for our program. I was very impressed with our execution in the big points."
Lawley, Moreira and Notkin were also victorious in singles action. Lawley won 6-2, 6-2, Moreira won 6-5, 6-5 and Notkin won 6-5, 6-2.
Following the trek to Tulsa, SDSU was swept in doubles.
The Jacks bounced back in singles action, though, as Boglic, Lovro Curcija, Moreira and Notkin all won their matches.
Boglic won 6-4, 6-5, 7-5, Curcija won 6-3, 6-1, Moreira won 6-4, 6-3 and Notkin won 6-3, 2-6, 6-5.
"The match against Oral Roberts was all about adversity and the guys handled it perfectly," Engdahl said. "Winning a 4-3 match after getting swept in doubles shows mental toughness. It's great to see this level of focus this early in the season."
SDSU will return to the courts on Feb. 1 at Wisconsin.
