Assmus records two personal bests at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – Shelby Assmus posted two top-10 finishes and set two personal best marks in the process on the final day of the Minnesota Jack Johnson Invite. Assmus placed seventh in the weight throw and claimed fifth place in the shot put.

Four Jackrabbits finished in the top-25 in the weight throw, including three personal bests being set in the process. Assmus led the Jackrabbit throwers in the weight throw as she placed seventh overall with her distance of 57 feet, 1 inch. Amy Paulzine tossed a mark of 53-9 to take 13th and Trisha Sumption recorded a distance of 45-10 1/2 to claim 23rd. Kae Januschka rounded out the top-25 for SDSU as she posted a mark of 44-2. Assmus, Paulinze and Sumption all set personal bests in the weight throw.

Assmus also claimed a spot in the top-10 in the shot put. She placed fifth overall with her mark of 47-1 ½. Her throw is also a personal best for her in the shot put.

Mary Wirth finished third overall in the high jump event with her mark of 5-7 ¼. Kali Olson and Ashley Wagner both jumped a height of 5-2 ½, which is a personal best for Wagner. Olson took 14th overall and Wagner claimed 18th.

Two meets into the 2013-14 indoor season and two personal bests set for Jenna Stephens. Stephens set a personal best today in the triple jump with her mark of 36-5 ½ as she placed eighth overall.  Earlier this season at the Bison Classic she set her old personal best distance of 36-4 ¼.

Carly Carper and Gina Fritz both posted top-25 finishes in the 60-meter dash. Carper ran a time of 7.92 seconds, while Fritz finished in 8.10. They placed 14th and 22nd, respectively. Courtney Trapp set a personal best in the 60-meter dash with her final time of 8.23, at the Dakota Duals earlier this season she posted a time of 8.25.

The mile run featured two Jackrabbit runners setting personal bests on Saturday. Brooke Peterson and Karley Konkol set personal best times of 5:14.79 and 5:20.54, respectively. Peterson led the Jackrabbits with her 31st place finish and Samantha Anderson finished four spots behind Peterson with her overall time of 5:16.00.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Marissia Hagedorn ran a time of 9.26 to place 17th overall in the event.

Both Alex Suhr and Rochelle Wynia collected personal bests in the 3,000-meter run today. Suhr ran a time of 10:47.08 and Wynia finished the race with a final time of 11:26.13.

Jessica McDonald paced the Jackrabbits in the 400-meter dash with her final time of 1:00.85.

Marisa Shady made her Jackrabbit debut as she posted a final time of 1:40.17 in the 600-meter run to finish 18th overall.

In the 800-meter run, Jessica Eibs led the Jackrabbits as she placed 18th overall with her time of 2:20.65.

In the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Fritz, Lori Foltz, Kala McDonald and J. McDonald ran time of 4:05.98 to place 18th overall.

The Jackrabbits are at the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invite and the Minnesota State Open next weekend. The Iowa State Bill Bergan Invite is held in Ames, Iowa and the Minnesota State Open takes place in Mankato, Minn.
