Mary Wirth raises the bar on her own school record
MANKATO, Minn. - Mary Wirth improved her own school record in the high jump on Saturday as she set a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches at the Minnesota State Open.
Wirth set her old record of 5-9 ¾ at the 2012 Summit League Track and Field Championships.
She claimed the high jump title on Saturday with her height of 5-10. Kali Olson posted a season-best height of 5-6 1/2 to place second overall. Also in the high jump, Ashley Wagner collected a personal best height of 5-3, as she took sixth.
Jenna Stephens set two personal bests in the long jump and triple jump on Saturday. She took fourth in the triple jump with her mark of 37-3 ¾. Not only is her distance a personal best, it moves her into ninth place in the SDSU record books. She also posted a mark of 16-7 in the long jump.
Marissia Hagedorn clocked in at 9.25 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles and placed fourth overall with her final time of 9.27 in the finals.
Rochelle Wynia represented the Jackrabbits in the 5,000-meter run. She posted a final time of 20:03.77 en route to a 12th-place finish.
In the 60-meter dash, Courtney Trapp set a personal best time of 8.22 as she placed ninth overall.
Evelyn Klein and Jacleen Patterson both competed in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Klein ran times of 27.22 and 1:00.59 as she placed 25th and 10th respectively. Patterson posted times of 27.23 and 1:00.80 as she collected 26th- and 12th-place finishes, respectively.
Erica Meyer ran to a ninth-place finish in the 600-meter run with her final time of 1:45.88.
Melissa Knobloch paced the Jackrabbits in the 800-meter run with her overall time of 2:42.41.
AMES, Iowa – On the final day of the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invite five Jackrabbit women set personal bests including Carly Carper, who now holds the fourth-fastest 200-meter dash time in school history. Carper clocked in at 25.10 to place 13th overall in the event. Earlier this season she ran a time of 25.26 at the Dakota Duals.
Karley Konkol and Brooke Peterson both set personal best times in the one-mile run. Konkol placed fifth overall with her final time of 5:14.50 and Peterson claimed third-place with her final time of 5:10.87. Also in the mile run, Jessica Eibs ran a time of 5:06.87 to finish in second and Lindsey Strait posted a final time of 5:14.67 to take sixth.
Kala McDonald posted a personal-best time of 59.31 in the 400-meter dash to take 20th.
In the 60-meter dash, Carper took 11th overall with her time of 7.81 and Gina Fritz posted an 18th-place finish with her final time of 8.10. Fritz also finished 18th in the 200-meter dash with her overall time of 25.58.
Jessica Eibs rounded out the top-10 in the 1,000-meter run with her time of 3:01.08.
Freshman Silvia Zanini took 14th in the shot put with her mark of 39-8 ¾.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Fritz, Jessica McDonald, Lori Foltz and K. McDonald ran a combined time of 3:59.43 to place 11th in the event.
The Jackrabbits are slated to compete in the Husker Invite and the USD Open next weekend. The Husker Invite is a two-day meet (Feb. 7-8) in Lincoln, Neb. The University of South Dakota hosts the USD Open on Feb. 8 in Vermillion, S.D.
