CONWAY, Ark. – The South Dakota State softball team snapped a five game skid on Friday with a 9-3 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first game of the Central Arkansas Invitational in Conway, Ark.

The Jackrabbits improve to 2-8 with the win, while the Golden Lions fall to 1-2.

Devan Larsen, Elyse Eitel and Sammy Bingham all posted three hits in the game, with both Larsen and Eitel adding a run scored and a pair of RBI. KayCee Miller hit her first homerun as a Jackrabbit, a two-run shot in the second inning that put the Jacks up 3-0.

SDSU added two more in the third and fifth innings before the Lions plated two in the top of the sixth inning, but the Jacks got those back in the bottom of the sixth and limited the Lions to just one more run in the top of the seventh.

Ashlyn Bender went the distance for the Jackrabbits to boost her record to 2-3 on the season. She scattered eight hits, giving up three runs and three walks, with a season-high nine strikeouts.

The Jacks look to start their first winning streak of the season on Saturday, when they take on the Lions again at 11:15 a.m. SDSU then plays Alabama State at 6 p.m.
