Jacks Open Spring Slate in Utah
BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota State women’s golf team gets its spring slate underway Thursday at the 2014 Southern Utah University Lady Thunderbird Golf Invitational in St. George, Utah.
The 36-hole event takes place on the Pointe and Black Rock nines at the Sunbrook Golf Course. The course is a par-72, 6,092-yard layout with 18 holes being played Thursday and Friday beginning both days with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Jackrabbits, who were picked third in the Summit League preseason poll last month, is one of 12 teams in the field.
The Jackrabbits are coming off three top-10 finishes from this past fall. Sophomore Sydney MacDonald (Calgary, Alberta) ranked 13th in scoring average in The Summit League after the fall season. In 15 rounds, MacDonald had a 79.1 scoring average. Freshman Islamiah Fuad (Perak, Malaysia) was 14th, shooting a 79.2 over 15 rounds, and rookie Hallie Getz (Pierre) was 16th with a 79.4 scoring average in nine rounds.
MacDonald and Getz also posted the 17th-lowest round in the league this past fall, shooting even-par 72s at the Payne Stewart Memorial Oct. 14-15.
The Jacks finished the fall season with the third-best team scoring average (315.7) and had the league’s 10th-lowest round during the second round of the Payne Stewart Memorial.
