GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- South Dakota State defeated Portland State 5-0 and were up in the two unfinished matches in the first of two matches in Grand Forks this weekend.

"Today was a good win for the boys," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Portland State picked up a few good wins on their roadtrip, so it was great to see our boys not let their positive momentum get to us. Everyone played great and we'll look to do the same when we return to Grand Forks."

SDSU took two of three double's matches as Parker Lawley and Lovro Curcija won 8-0, while Lucas and Henry Pereira won 8-2.

In singles, H. Pereira won 6-4, 6-4 and Mateus Moreira won 6-4, 7-5. Gary Notkin and L. Pereira won 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, respectively.

SDSU will return to Grand Forks tomorrow as it faces North Dakota.
