Jackrabbit women set top marks at Bryan Clay

AZUSA, Calif. – McKenzie Johnson and Mary Wirth both posted victories Friday as the South Dakota State women’s track and field team competed at the Bryan Clay Invite. Along with Johnson and Wirth winning titles, a handful of Jackrabbits set personal-best performances and posted top-10 performances in the SDSU record book.

Johnson won the shot put event with her overall distance of 46 feet, 9 inches, while Wirth won the high jump event with her height of 5-10.

Also in the high jump event, Kali Olson placed third with her height of 5-8.

Carly Carper (third) and Jazzelena Black (fourth) finished back-to-back in the long jump event. They both set personal-best marks today as Carper went 18-10 3/4 and Black posted a mark of 18-9 1/4. Carper’s distance still ranks fourth in the SDSU record book, while Black moves into the sixth spot.

Amy Paulzine tallied a runner-up finish in the javelin throw with her distance of 141-7.

Silvia Zanini placed second in the discus throw with her personal-best distance of 157-8. She moves into fourth all-time at SDSU. Also in the discus throw, Paulzine placed third with her mark of 153-0.

Marissia Hagedorn ran a time of 14.86 seconds to place 15th in the 100-meter hurdles.

Gina Fritz posted a personal-best time of 56.75 to place seventh in the 400-meter dash. Her time today ranks 10th-best at SDSU. Fritz also posted a time of 25.09 in the 200-meter dash to take 13th.

Carper's time of 11.88 in the 100-meter dash tied her for fourth. Carper also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash as she posted a final time of 24.36.

Bobbie McLaury represented the Jackrabbits in the 800-meter run. She posted a final time of 2:16.84 to place 27th.

Lori Foltz ran a personal-best time of 1:04.07 to finish 12th in the 400-meter hurdles. She moves into eighth all-time at SDSU.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jacleen Patterson, Jazzelena Black, Frtiz and Carper combined for a final time of 47.17. They took fourth in the race and their time ranks sixth all-time at SDSU.

The Jackrabbits end their California trip tomorrow at the Long Beach State Invite.
