Career day for Benson in Yankton

YANKTON, S.D. – Less than a week after posting a personal-best throw in the shot put at the Bryan Clay Invite, Austin Benson posted personal-best throws in the discus and the hammer throw Tuesday at the Mount Marty Twilight. Benson tallied two third-place finishes and a sixth-place finish on the day.

In the hammer throw, Benson placed third with his personal-best mark of 164 feet, 8 inches. With his mark today, Benson now passes John Delay (2001,162-9) for sixth all-time in the SDSU record book.

In the discus throw, Benson took sixth with a personal-best toss of 151-3. He also placed third in the shot put event with his distance of 47-4 1/2.

Kyle Anderson posted a pair of top-10 finishes Tuesday. He placed eighth in the hammer throw with his mark of 142-8 and in the shot put he took fourth with his distance of 46-8.

Jake Sanderson won the triple jump event with his mark of 45-4 1/2.

Kory Kohlhof placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with his final time of 11.30 seconds. He also took ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.06).

Adam Halverson and Levi Winkels finished back-to-back in the 400-meter dash with their times of 51.52 and 51.60, respectively. Halverson recorded a 12th-place finish, while Winkels took 13th.

Halverson also clocked in for a time of 22.79 in the 200-meter dash to place fifth.

Grant VanKeulen ran to a 14th-place finish as he posted a season-best time of 2:00.16 in the 800-meter run.

Blair Seymour claimed the runner-up spot in the javelin throw with his mark of 171-3.

In the pole vault event, Ryan Schaefer placed third as he bested his old personal-best mark by six inches; Schaefer cleared a height of 15-7.

The Jackrabbits are slated to compete at the 105th Drake Relays this weekend.
