Reichow runs to second-place finish
FARGO, N.D. – Joel Reichow ran to a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run on the first day of the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Reichow posted a final time of 31 minutes, 00.40 seconds to claim second.
Bennett Mercil represented the Jackrabbits in the decathlon event. He started out the day with a time of 11.88 in the 100-meter dash. Mercil recorded a personal-best distance of 21 feet, 1 1/2 inches to place third in the long jump event. In the shot put event, Mercil recorded a mark of 35-11 1/2. He cleared a height of 5-9 3/4 in the high jump and in the final event of the day, the 400-meter dash, Mercil clocked in for a time of 55.07. Overall, Mercil is currently in seventh with a total of 3,100 points.
Mercil concludes the decathlon event tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. (110-meter hurdles).
Three Jackrabbit throwers placed in the top-10 of the men’s hammer throw event. Cullen Mack led the Jackrabbit contingent with his seventh-place finish (170-11). Ryan Ackman and Austin Benson rounded out the top-10 with their ninth- and 10th-place finishes, respectively.
Ackman posted a mark of 167-9, while Benson recorded a distance of 162-3.
Blair Seymour placed fifth in the javelin throw with his mark of 159-10.
The Jackrabbits are currently in third-place with a total of 19 points.
The second day of action starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the running of the 110-meter hurdles (decathlon).
