Jacks honored as Summit Distinguished Scholars

ELMHURST, Ill. -- A total of 92 South Dakota State University student-athletes have been recognized as Summit League Distinguished Scholars for the winter and spring seasons, league officials announced Thursday. SDSU's 92 selections were the most among the 10 league members.

In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 grade-point average in the semester of his or her league championship, and must use a year of eligibility. League-wide, 483 student-athletes from baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field were honored as Distinguished Scholars.

The University of South Dakota ranked second with 75 recipients, followed by Omaha with 71 and North Dakota State with 64. IUPUI landed 50 honorees to the list, three ahead of Western Illinois’ 47 members. Fort Wayne (37 recipients) and Denver (34 recipients) rounded out the list. Men’s and women’s swimming and diving associate member Eastern Illinois had 13 student-athletes earn Distinguished Scholar honors.
